Data and privacy
We collect limited statistics to understand which guides are useful to readers.
What the counter receives
When a page opens, the browser sends its path, language, date and entry-source category: search engine, direct visit or another website. A temporary random identifier is stored in browser sessionStorage. A page visit is counted once per session and day.
What the analytics database does not store
The application does not store IP addresses, names, email addresses, search queries or full referring URLs in this database. It does not set analytics cookies. Hosting infrastructure may separately process network data to operate and protect the service.
Feedback and your choice
Guide feedback contains only the page, language, yes/no answer, date and a random identifier used to update the vote. The counter skips browsers that send a Do Not Track signal. If sessionStorage is unavailable, no visit is sent.
How data is used
Data supports reports about visits and page usefulness. The analytics dashboard is restricted to the owner. Organic traffic inferred from referrers is approximate and can miss visits with no referrer.
Reading preferences and saved guides
The color theme, text size and saved-guide list are stored in this browser’s localStorage for this site. Bookmarks contain the language, address, title, summary, category and time saved. The list and preferences are not sent to analytics or the site database; opening a guide may be counted by the regular visit counter. Clearing site data removes preferences and bookmarks. If storage is unavailable, changes last only on the current page.
Site language
On your first visit to the homepage, language is selected from the IP country using a local IPtoASN database. This feature neither sends the IP address to a geolocation service nor stores it. If the country is unavailable, we use the browser language or English. The selected language is stored in the atlas-language cookie for up to one year and in browser local storage. Visiting a page in another language updates the preference. You can change the language in the menu or clear saved preferences in browser settings. A VPN may affect country detection.
